Plan envisions develop and improve favelas of Rio de Janeiro in order to Olympics.
Rio de Janeiro, July 27 .- A new urban plan that provides for rehabilitating 378 more than a hundred slum dwellers in Rio de Janeiro, in addition to eliminating a further 123 located in areas at risk, with the aim of reforming the city for the Olympic Games 2016, was introduced today by the authorities.
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, presented the, ffxiv gil, project Morar Carioca (Carioca Living "), a social policy program which aims to develop and rehabilitate about 600 favelas in the next ten years.

Following the landslides caused by heavy rains last April, the municipal government announced it would move to the slum dwellers in areas of risk to public housing aid, a decision that was ratified in the plan.
According to the program, the authorities intend to leave nearly 13,000 families of 123 favelas until 2012, though the actions carried out during the first half of 2010 did not meet the timetable set.
The new program also provides for the intervention in all the favelas Pacifying Police Unit (UPP), a special security force created to eradicate the drug mafia who live in poor neighborhoods.
So far, only PU had been installed in ten favelas of Rio de Janeiro located in the south of the city, where the richest neighborhoods.
The boundaries of each favela which will also be defined, according to the Town Hall, provide policing and security maintenance.
The new program includes an investment of 8.000 billion reals (about 4,500 million dollars) during the next ten years, and it is anticipated that the targets set are to be completed in 2020.
